Hangar 42 was constructed in 1939 for the RAF. Polish and RAF Squadrons flew Night Fighter operations from Hangar42, with the building being refurbished to its WW2 operational state.
Hurricanes, Boulton Paul Defiants and Spitfires were amongst a range of aircraft operated from Hangar 42.
Famous Aviation Pioneer and ATA Pilot Amy Johnson also flew her last fateful mission from Blackpool in 1941.

As you arrive at Blackpool Airport on Squires Gate Lane, as you turn into the Airport from the Traffic Lights, you must continue straight on, keeping the Wacky Warehouse on your left and Lidl on your right. Turning right at the T-Junction and then an immediate left, driving down the side of Lidl, will take you to the tarmacked Free Car parking area. Once in the Car Park, you will see the large Blue “Westair Hangar” you need to walk along the path way, which runs along the North side of the Westair Hangar, where you will see the Spitfire Visitor Centre signs.
